What are peplum cocktail dresses and why should you be wearing them? These are the two questions we're answering in this blog. So if you're interested in dresses and their newest trends, buckle up, and let's explore peplums!

What Are Peplum Cocktail Dresses?

Firstly let's understand what a 'peplum' is. Peplums came from ancient Greece and were common in their clothing thousands of years ago, so this is on long-lasting trend!

But the modern day peplum cocktail dress is simply a small 'tutu' style image added to the bottom of jackets, shirts, or at the waist of dresses and skirts. It’s a short, flared, and perhaps ruffled piece of material which creates the 'tutu' style.

Why Should I Wear Peplum Dresses?

In short, because they are hot stuff in the fashion world right now! Recently made popular by Victoria Beckham, Blake Lively, and Beyonce amongst others, it's a style that can be worn formally and casually.

They're very flattering to many women, regardless of shape or size, as they create an 'hour-glass' type illusion of having a slender waist and voluptuously wide hips.

Ready to hit the town and party with your friends, but looking in your closet and got nothing to wear? Let's look at some cocktail dresses that could be perfect for your next night out, and a few tips to make sure you choose a good one! :-) Choosing the right dress is important, as the style will help to flatter your shape and help you look great, but the other important aspect is that of confidence. After all, if you look good, then you feel good!

Show off your best features!

You know your best feature. Maybe it's your legs, chest, or collarbone. Either way, it's a good idea to choose cocktail dresses that emphasize these! At the same time, you may wish to de-emphasize areas that you consider as being a problem. Typically these are good ways to emphasize some good features:
  • A V neckline will show off your bust.

  • Bodycon dresses are great if you're brave and want to show off your curves.

  • Knee-length skirts will showcase your great legs.
Whereas you can play down some issues in these ways:
  • A-line and Empire style dresses will not hug your hips, and so are very forgiving.

  • Avoid busy prints and horizontal stripes. These are sure to make you look bigger.

  • Sleeves will help with arms.

  • Soft, flowing, fabrics like chiffon, satin, or silk, are nice, as they won't be restrictive, and drape instead of being too snug.
Here are a few examples of cocktail dresses you might like:   V NECK: Ruched V Neck Back Sash Cocktail Dress, Style Code: 10450, US$84.00 Ruched V Neck Back Sash Cocktail Dress, Style Code: 10450, US$84.00 The V neck will show off your collarbone and bust, so show off the girls! Heels are a girl's best friend!
