The 4 Most Flattering Plus Size Formal Dresses Money Can Buy

BY ADRIAN LEIGHTON

4 Most Flattering Plus Size Formal Dresses

the 4 most flattering plus size formal dresses

You look at store after store, most models aren’t your shape and size, and you’re unsure and intimidated when it comes to choosing plus size formal dresses. It’s a common situation faced by fuller-figured girls. You’re probably looking for a formal dress for an occasion such as a ball, prom, or formal dinner, and because these events tend to be classy and special it heaps even more pressure on to you to make the right choice. So how do you help yourself to choose a flattering dress?

Learn To Pick Out Flattering Styles

Once you have a better idea of the basic dress style that you’re looking for then things become a lot easier and less stressful. Luckily we’re here to help, and there are 4 shapes of plus size formal dresses that are going to suit you the best.

1. Ball Gown Dresses

[caption id="attachment_6487" align="aligncenter" width="195"]Camila Alves Ball Gown V-neck Sleeveless Evening Wear Style Code: 05380 $184 A ball gown is really glamorous, and can disguise your lower body well.[/caption] There are few dresses more synonymous with formal events than ball gowns. They’re usually more fitted at the top, defining your waist which is good. Below your waist they drape into a full skirt, and this helps to disguise bigger thighs and hips. Good for: Pear-shaped girls who want to disguise hips and thighs. Don’t choose if: You’re small, as this dress shape is quite large and could swamp you.

2. A-Line Dresses

[caption id="attachment_6486" align="aligncenter" width="195"]Cutout Sequin Pleated One Shoulder Trained Prom Dress Style Code: 10950 $128 See how the waistline gets cinched in with an A-line dress, creating a more balanced shape for the wearer.[/caption] We love A-line formal dresses as they're so versatile! To be honest they look great on all girls, plus size or not. Again they hug your body closer up top and flare out at the skirt. The benefit to plus size girls is that they give a sleek straight silhouette and disguise any lumps and bumps you may have. Good for: Balancing proportions, bigger busts are balanced by the flared skirt, and bigger thighs are disguised by it.

3. Princess Style Dresses

[caption id="attachment_6485" align="aligncenter" width="195"]Glitter Tulle Asymmetric Shoulder Trained Evening Dress Style Code: 11458 $209 Princess dresses like this one are such a graceful and slimming style![/caption] The great thing about princess formal dresses is that they're a very slimming type of dress. They’re similar to ball gowns , but have a slimmer skirt which helps to lengthen your body and look a little more slender. Good for: Plus size girls looking to slim their silhouette down. Apple shapes, disguising their tummies. Shorter girls, as straighter lines help to make you look taller.

4. Empire Waist Dresses

[caption id="attachment_6484" align="aligncenter" width="195"]Tucked V-Neck Beading Sweep Trained Evening Wear Style Code: 11062 $179 You can see how high the waistline is here, and how the skirt will drape over you in a flattering way.[/caption] If confidence is key then go with Empire formal dresses, as they’re one of the most forgiving styles you can get thanks to their high waistlines and sweeping skirts. Their waistlines are quite high, giving the illusion of a slender waist because they hug you around your ribs just under the bust (the smallest part of your body!). Good for: Hiding tummies, thighs and hips. Give a slender silhouette thanks to vertical skirt.   It’s About Balance Just because you’re a plus size doesn’t mean that you need to cover up any of your good points, rather you need to balance those with playing down your weaker areas. Busty, but got big hips? Go with a lower neckline, but a higher waistline with sweeping skirt. Not keen on your arms? Choose formal dresses with sleeves or shawls to give them some coverage and you’ll feel more comfortable.   How Do I Get plus Size Formal Dresses From OuterInner.com? Firstly we’d like to let you know that you CAN! We offer from a US2 to 28 in our standard sizes, so we have most sizes covered already. A US16 and above will only be an extra $9. OuterInner.com Star Style: Emmys 2012 Black Tie Event Dresses

Emmys 2012 Black Tie Event Dresses

By Adrian Leighton
black tie event dresses at the emmys
It's the time of year where stars of the small screen get together to discover whose TV shows are the winners and losers in the Emmys! I personally loved 'Breaking Bad,' 'Game Of Thrones,' and 'Homeland,' but hey, that's just me, and we're here to talk about dresses! This year we've seen some really dazzling outfits, and we're going to show you how you can recreate these star styles with our very own black tie event dresses! The difference is that their dresses cost perhaps thousands of dollars, whilst ours are very inexpensive :-) Let's look at a few of our favorite Emmys styles, and similar black tie event dresses from OuterInner that will help you get a similar style...

Bright Yellow Black Tie Event Dresses

There was a lot of bright yellow on show, and why not! It's a fun, cheerful colors that's always eye-catching. Our favorite was Claire Danes in her bright Lanvin gown:

You can get this look by choosing this dress:

Mermaid Dresses

There's nothing quite like a mermaid style dress to show off your showbiz curves, and we often see stars embracing this look on the red carpet. The best in our opinion had to be the gorgeous Sophia Vergara in her Zuhair Murad gown here:

If you want to flaunt your stuff like Sophia then maybe this black tie event dress could be the one?
Sweep/ Brush Train Mermaid Sleeveless Halter Black Tie Event, Style Code: 00143, US$145.00 Sweep/ Brush Train Mermaid Sleeveless Halter Black Tie Event, Style Code: 00143, US$145.00

Layered Tulle Dresses

Layered tulle dresses have great volume given by the stiff tulle used in their skirts, and have real fairytale style. Zooey Deschanel's Reem Acra gown shows what I mean exactly:

The dress below isn't shown in a similar color, but you can see how it gives you the same voluminous skirt and princess look:

Gray Dresses

There were so many different shades of gray last night it was hard to choose which dress looked best, but I think finally it has to be Emily Van Camp's illusion neckline J Mendel dress here:

Gray's a really glamorous and versatile color, and we love the illusion neckline which you can also see here:
High Illusion Neck Draping Sash Formal Dress, Style Code: 09116, US$274.00 High Illusion Neck Draping Sash Formal Dress, Style Code: 09116, US$274.00

One Shoulder Dresses

There's something so seductive about a one shouder dress, and this bright Tadashi Shoji example being worn by British star Kat Deeley, is a great look:
Here at OuterInner.com we have a lot of one shoulder dresses, and here's a nice red one that has similar red carpet glamour:

Formal Dresses From The Emmy's 2011 That You Can Find At OuterInner

What could be better than getting inspiration on new formal dresses from your favorite TV celebrities? There are many marquee events on TV each year, and they're actually a great way to get some good ideas. The Emmy's just happened in LA, so I want to look at some of the dresses that the stars were wearing and find some similar dresses that are on sale at outerinner.com. The plan is to save you money, whilst giving you the celebrity style of the moment!

Get That Red Carpet Style Within Your Budget!

We love to help you save money, BUT still look great! I've been through the dresses on display at the Emmy's this year and chosen a few whose style I think you can also find at outerinner. I won't promise that they're exactly the same formal dresses that you can see the stars wearing here, but what I can promise is that instead of spending thousands of dollars you can pick ours up for about a hundred or less!
