Your son or daughter's wedding day is such an important day for them and you, so you want your mother of the bride dresses to look perfect for when you're also in the spotlight. However your size may have changed and many dresses you see are only meant for small sizes. So what to do? There's good news! Many mother of the bride dresses are made for fuller-figured ladies and so you will in fact have lots of choice of dresses that are going to be comfy, but will more importantly make you look great!

1. Avoid Clingy Mother Of The Bride Dresses

clingy dresses are not flattering to all shapes
Clingy dresses are one to avoid unless you're very confident with showing off your curves. They could be difficult to move in, uncomfortable and less than flattering if they highlight any bulges in the wrong places. A better option is to choose a mother of the bride dress that is loos and either flows down your body, OR is fitted to give you a bit more natural shape. Fabrics like taffeta or tulle are good as they're heavier and give the dress more body of its own meaning that it won't be so clingy. This kind of dress is a good example of the style we are suggesting:

2. Say No To VPL

VPL is unflattering
VPL (visible panty lines) can be easily avoided if you choose the right underwear. Being able to see the outline of your undies, or the color of your bra through the color of your dress is a big no-no. The solution? Go nude! No, not without underwear, but by wearing nude-colored underwear. The effect will be even better if you choose some of today's popular shapewear which will help you avoid VPL and hold in any parts that may need it! ;-)

3. Dark Colors Are Slimming

We all know this, right? No matter what shape you are a darker dress will always appear slimming. Black isn't the only color though, and in fact it isn't ideal for weddings. Rather think about purple, crimson, burnt orange, dark greens or dark blues. Mother of the bride dresses in dark-colored irridescent taffeta are particularly pretty, as they're slimming and look metallic and stylish. Here's an irridescent taffeta dress for instance:

4. A Shawl, Bolero, Or Wrap Can Make All The Difference

You may like to wear a strapless dress as it's a fashionable look, but what if you feel that your arms need some coverage (a common issue with mature ladies)? A shawl, wrap or bolero will cover your arms and can be take off to suit you and the occasion. Many of OuterInner's mother of the bride dresses do come complete with these, so you can check them here: mother of the bride dresses with shawls, boleros and wraps.

5. Enjoy The Day!

smile and enjoy the wedding
This is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for your son or daughter, so enjoy it! Smile and appreciate the lovely dress you're wearing, but remember, it's the occasion that's most important, not the dress! What's your favorite style of mother of the bride dresses? Let us know!
