5. Don't Pay A Deposit

save money by not putting down expensive deposits
Many bridal stores will want you to pay a deposit for their wedding dresses, but resist putting down money on a dress that you love until you're 100% satisfied that it's THE perfect dress for you! Once you've paid that money there's no turning back! Remember that there are a LOT of wedding dresses out there and you never know when you'll see another which is even more perfect, so it would be a pity to lose a deposit. A better idea would be to get a dress made, then you'll never need to fall for the salesperson's pressure when they say, "Oh, this is the last dress we have in this style." Sounds expensive to get a wedding dress made, right? Wrong! You can get your very own custom sized wedding dress made online for a fraction of the price you'll pay for one off-the-rack in a local bridal boutique. We're looking at no more than about US$300 or $400 including delivery! Nice price, huh?

6. Choose Flattering wedding Dresses For Your Shapes

common body shapes
There are a few common body shapes and the thing you need to do before you choose wedding dresses is to understand what shape you are. This will help you get a dress that really flatters your shape and will help you look great! Many brides make the mistake of thinking that a dress that looks fantastic in pictures or on the rack will look great on them, but in fact this is wrong and could lead to you looking terrible on your wedding day. So let's look at the body shapes now: Pear-shaped: This is the most common body shape for women, but if you're not sure if this is you then typically pear-shapes will have a larger lower body, small or medium bust, full calves and thighs and curvy hips and bottom. They have a slimmer face and neck. Pear shapes will usually gain weight on their hips and thighs. Famous pear shapes include Beyonce and Kate Hudson. The best styles of wedding dress for pear-shapes will have some or all of the following features:
  • Puffed sleeves
  • A full skirt
  • Empire style waist
  • Wide set straps
  • Low neckline
  • Be tight around the shoulders
Apple-shaped: Apple shapes will usually have a larger upper body and bigger bust. They usually have slim legs, thighs and bottom. They have a fuller face and neck. Apple shapes usually gain weight on their waist. Famous apple shapes include Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie. The best wedding dresses for apple-shapes will have some or all of the following features:
  • Sleeveless
  • A-Line style skirt
  • Empire style waist
  • V-shaped neckline
  • Flowing Train
Hour-glass shaped: Hour glasses are exactly that, women who have a bigger bust and larger thighs, bottom and hips. They usually have a slim waist. Hour glasses usually gain weight on their curves, not their waist. Famous hour glass shapes include Marilyn Monroe and Halle Berry. The best styles of wedding dress for hour glass shapes will have some or all of the following features:
  • Halter or strapless dress
  • Tight skirt
  • V or scooped neckline
  • Corset top
Model (slender) shaped: If you are fortunate enough to have this shape then you could be a model! They have a slim body and waist, long arms and medium bust. Some say this figure can even be 'boyish.' Model shapes tend not to gain weight in any particular area. Famous model shapes are, unsurprisingly, Claudia Schiffer and Cameron Diaz. The best styles of wedding dress for hour glass shapes will have some or all of the following features:
  • Strapless or spaghettis straps
  • V or scooped neckline
  • Contoured waist
  • Pleated skirt

7. Choose A Realistic Size

take a reality check on your size
It's tempting to really want to fit into a wedding dress that's a size you used to be able to get into or think you should be able to get into, but this is a pipe-dream and a mistake! You need to be realistic otherwise you'll end up looking terrible or needing to get your dress altered heavily. For instance, if you're currently a 12, but you used to be able to wear a 10; do NOT order a 10 and hope you can lose weight and get into it. Many things can happen when you're planning a wedding and the last thing you need is the pressure to exercise a lot if you don't have time! Worst case is that you'd need the wedding dress taken out which is difficult and can lead to the dress looking odd and different to that which you fell in love with! It's much, much easier to take in a dress and looks a lot better, so if you found that you lost a bit of weight by the time the wedding arrives it will be possible to take it in quickly to fit you and then you'll see that being realistic was the best policy!   So there are 7 tips, but we're pretty sure that you guys will all have your own tips related to wedding dresses, so we'd love if you can share them with everyone else here by leaving a comment below please!
