5 Wedding Food trends That You’ll Love

wedding food trends

Think back to the weddings you’ve been invited to in the past. What made the best so memorable? Could it be a stunning bride? A fabulous venue, or perhaps the wedding food trends that they had chosen?

It’s probably a combination of the three, but wedding guests with full tummies are usually the happiest and who doesn’t like a good meal?

In the past couples simply didn’t have the choice of the many wonderful wedding food trends that are so commonplace these days. It allows you to really super-charge your day by choosing wedding food that’s going to leave a lasting memory!

Let’s look at some of the hottest wedding food trends of the moment:

1.      Cupcakes Instead Of Large Wedding Cakes

wedding cupcakes: wedding food trends

There are so many reasons why cup cakes are now proving to be a real alternative to expensive wedding cakes.
In today’s economic climate many couples just don’t want to pay $4 to $5 per slice for an extravagant wedding cake, and cupcakes look as good but cost only $1 to $2 each!
If arranged attractively they make a great centrepiece for your day, and they’re in small, individual portions so every guest gets a taste!
So they’re good value and can be made in different flavors and with different styles; what’s not to like?

2.      Food Vans

Why do the same kind of ‘sit down’ meal as everyone else?
Many couples are opting to hire various food vans to come to the wedding!
They come in all kinds of styles, from retro to modern, and feature almost any foods that you can think of!
Indian, fish & chips, Mexican, burgers, ice-cream; they’re all available!
So your guests can simply queue up, get their meals, and sit down in your venue and enjoy!
It’s fun and popular, which is exactly what you want from wedding food trends!

3.      A Wedding Cheese Tower

If you and your guests love cheese then this hot trend will be a winner!
Whilst it’s perhaps not an alternative to a traditional sweet wedding cake in many traditionalists’ eyes, the cheese tower will be a huge favourite of those without a sweet-tooth!

Guests can really make a meal of this tasty treat, as there are usually different kinds of yummy cheeses that can be served with breads, chutneys, fruits, and salads.

4.      A Dessert Station

Small is beautiful! The great thing about a dessert station is that it gives guests the ability to please themselves. They can try as many or as few of the desserts as they like, whereas with a traditional menu they may only have one choice.

You can literally choose any kinds of desserts, but popular choices are petit 4s, mini cheesecake bites, mini éclairs, and Danishes. You might also like to have a selection of fruits, marshmallows, and pretzels to dip in some chocolate!

5.      DIY Food Bars

wedding burger bar: wedding food trendsMost of these wedding food trends have one thing in common, they’re fun!

A silver service is timeless, but if you really want to put a really big smile on your guests’ faces then you won’t go far wrong with a DIY burger bar!
Beef, chicken, vegetarian, it doesn’t matter if people are fussy or not as there will be something for them.
Add a selection of toppings ranging from lettuce and tomato, through to the more exotic such as Thai sweet chilli, and it’ll be a taste sensation.

You can also get a grill set up, and barbecue them fresh during the reception! Yum!

Top 10 Bridesmaid Dresses & Wedding Colors Of 2013 (Part 1)

Top 10 Bridesmaid Dresses & Wedding Colors Of 2013

It’s always difficult to decide which wedding colors you’d prefer for your big day. With the 2013 Spring & Summer wedding season just around the corner, now’s a good time to look at some of the most popular colors this year.

It won’t surprise you to hear that some of the classic ‘favorites’ like purples, grays and mints are still going to be hot wedding colors, but there are also some new, and perhaps surprising options to choose from too!

The good thing about 2013 is that there’s something for everyone, regardless of if you prefer bright colors, or lighter hues. One surprise is that nude colors are starting to cross over from the catwalk and red carpet to our weddings, so expect to see muted browns and creams at a ceremony near you soon!

So brides, are you ready? Fasten your seatbelts, and let’s get into our top 10 wedding colors of 2013:

Top 10 Wedding Colors In 2013

1. Purple

No wedding color list would be complete without purple! It’s the color of royalty, elegance, and glamour. All elements that many brides would love at their wedding! As you may know, purple also goes really well with metallic colors, so there is an opportunity to match with silver, gold, and the like. It’s also very common in wedding bouquets, so why not match your flowers and bridesmaid dresses for maximum impact?

Here’s a purple inspiration board for you from our wedding colors Pinterest board:

2. Nudes

Nude colors have been big on the red carpet and with designers, and with a vast choice of muted hues to choose from it’s no surprise that this is becoming a popular wedding color choice for brides. Whether it’s a mocha, dusky pink, or even beige; every bride can find a nude hue to suit her tastes. Beacuse these muted tones are masters of blending, it’s a choice that’ll never go out of style!

You know that OuterInner can make most of our bridesmaid dresses in many colors, so all you’ll need to do is take a look to find a nude that you love too!

3. Yellow

Spring and Summer are the most popular times for weddings, and so why not go with a bright, cheery yellow which is a great seasonal color, and guaranteed to put a smile on your guests’ faces? Yellow adds a natural glow to the wearer, and looks great in wedding pictures. It’s also one of the few wedding colors that really complements the natural Spring & Summer greens well.

See how great the yellow bridesmaid dresses look in this outdoor wedding:

4. Mint Green

Mint green alone is a beautiful fresh color, but who knew that it went so well with gold and indeed other colors like pink, blue, and beige? Because it lends itself so well to pairing with other colors it’s also a great choice for many different elements of your wedding such as the invites, favors, and centerpieces.

Here are some examples of why mint is a great idea:

And of course you can find many green bridesmaid dresses at OuterInner, like this pretty style:

5. Red

If you’re Asian then red at weddings won’t be strange at all, as it’s a traditionally lucky and prestigious color. But for those from other parts of the world you may wonder how to integrate this vibrant color into your day. First of all, red pairs very well with white, and black; both wedding colors that we’re sure to see at most weddings (suits, wedding gown etc). Look at this gorgeous picture where the red bridesmaid dresses really ‘frame’ the bride so well to see what I mean:

It’s worth mentioning that of course red is commonly used for nails and lips, and why not? But you should also consider using this color for your bridesmaid dresses, and also in your wedding bouquets (after all, how romantic are red roses?).

So that’s the first 5 of our top 10 wedding colors for 2013, but look out for part 2 of this blog next week if these aren’t quite doing it for you! Do you like these colors? Which would you choose? One of the best ways to integrate wedding colors into your day is to choose your bridesmaid dresses in them, so take a look today.

Choosing & Using Your Wedding Colors Like A Boss!

OuterInner.com’s Guide To Choosing & Using Your Wedding Colors Like A Boss!

By Adrian Leighton

A customer asked me about how to choose her wedding color-scheme on our OuterInner facebook page recently, so I thought I’d expand on what I was telling her in this blog. After all, we’re all about weddings here, so any way we can help is a pleasure!

where to start to find your wedding colors
There are several things to consider when choosing the colors for your wedding:

  1. Think about both of your favorite colors. Can you incorporate these, or shades of them? After all, they are your favorites, so you’ll definitely like them!

  • Does your venue have a color of its own, for instance wallpaper of a certain color? If so you will want to choose colors that do not clash, and preferably fit in with this.

  • Grab color swatches from the paint section of your local hardware store. They’re free, and can help you both decide at home.

  • Think of the ‘emotion’ of your wedding. Is it peaceful, fun, classy, or energetic? This will have a bearing on your choice.

  • Use the internet to help you get inspired! For example, you can try our Pinterest board: “Lovely Wedding Ideas,” to help get color and style ideas for free again.

You’ll find loads of cool color examples on line, like this one:

How Do I Use Color In My Day?

If you have found the colors you like, then there are heaps of fun ways to incorporate color into your day.

Wedding Dress

Everyone knows that bridesmaid dresses can be certain colors, but have you considered adding color to your wedding dress? Don’t be too horrified at the idea! If you are a purist and can’t bear the idea of not having a white dress it’s OK, as many white wedding dresses have little pops of color these days, such as a sash, or decoration.

Take a look at this wedding dress for instance:

Strapless Mermaid Back Tie Wedding Gown, Style Code: 08974, US$245.00

As you can see, this dress has an embroidered red sash which, far from overpowering the white of the dress, actually adds a more regal style to it!

Bridesmaid Dresses

You can also co-ordinate your maids, as mentioned. The usual method is to choose bridesmaid dresses that are one of your main color picks, but in fact many brides these days are trying different, interesting, ways to mix things up a little.

How about:

  • Same style dresses, same colors?

  • Same style, different colors?

  • Different styles of dresses in one color?

Wedding Invitations

Don’t forget to use one or more of your colors on your wedding invitation and perhaps table name settings. How about this example below where the couple have used a dark red color:

Flowers

You can really go to town when it comes to your flowers, and the good thing is that they’re usually available in any color that you can possibly dream up! Again, finding flower color ideas isn’t tough, and Pinterest is your friend, for example, our board “Gorgeous Wedding Bouquets.”

How about these cheerful colors?

Wedding Cake

The cake is another important focal point of your day, and there’s no reason why you can’t incorporate colors into it. Don’t think that they are all white, they’re pretty crazy at times these days!

I’m sure there are many other ways to use color! Why don’t you tell us what you did for your wedding? Which colors did or would you choose?
